Sunshine Coast Restaurant Design- The Back Lane Mooloolaba
We completed this Interior Design Job in September 2017, here are some of the design details and selections.
Working for a developer/owner who also has a strong passion for Interiors and Architecture we commenced this job at the drawings stage proposing a few different concepts for the design. The process an evolving design process picking elements and designs from each others suggestion to come up with a modern bar design that suits the Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
Hero Tiles- we chose these large format matte black with white vein tiles from Senio in Noosa, these were the beginning of the design and the element we drew reference from the most.
Local Handcrafted Custom Furniture- we worked in with Green cathedral, Noosa do design custom furniture for the spaces. Using a lighter timber broke up the dark colours and added warmth and a sense of cosiness to the space.
Custom Lighting- drawing inspiration from an image that showed drastic shadows created by pendant lights we decided to design and custom make our own perforated lights to create beautiful shadows on the surrounding walls. We also had these powdercoated in a custom matte black powdercoat to suit the furniture powder coat and also the bar pelmet.
Overhead Bar Details- we also custom designed the perforated overhead structure to the bar. This was also fitted with lights to soften the mood, with functional wine racks and bottle storage it really made a statement.
Concrete Bar- the initial design brief was fairly open but there was 1 non-negotiable, a concrete bar. Loving the look of concrete but wanting something a little unique and something that would tie in better with our feature tiles we opted for a white concrete bar. This would have to be the best use of concrete I’ve seen. the colouring was a perfect match to the veins in our feature tiles and really added a unique look moving away from the very popular grey concrete finish.
Artwork- being a back lane bar and the location Mooloolaba attracting tourists from around the world we wanted to reference this but sourcing photographic images of other bar lanes around the world. We purchased the licenses to these images and edited them in a sharp black and white look. Framed in a simple black frame and hung in a neat gallery wall format they really finished of the space.
Not only are the interiors well thought out the team engaged a world class chef and sommelier to create an unforgettable Sunshine Coast Dining experience.
