Budget Unit Sunshine Coast Renovation
We completed this Sunshine Coast renovation in 2013 some five years ago. After some great years on tenants renting we decided to put it on the market For Sale and thought it was a great time to look back on the selections chosen for this renovation.
Located in Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast this renovation was a true passion project, with little budget we set out to find the most cost effective way to create a beautiful unit, on a budget.
The original unit circa late 1980’s was neat and tidy but lacking a heap of soul. There wasn’t much we could keep in regards to internal linings however the cabinet structure of the kitchen was still in great shape which was a huge win and a massive cost saver. We chose to repaint the cabinet doors, add new handles, cut down the high top and create a huge timber benchtop. We used a pressed tin metal splashback which functioned really well to add a bit of difference (these are so easy to wipe down and clean too, win!). We decided to add in a bulkhead over the kitchen, been a concrete ceiling we didn’t have any options (other than ugly cable hiders) to add in pendant lights and the space been quiet small really needed some separation which the bulk head created and allowed us to install downlights and two pendant lights. Then adding in some pre-made overhead cabinets and some little hanging rails over the coffee area to finish it off .Creating the benchtop ourselves saved a lot of money so with minimal cost we had a really nice looking kitchen.
Now we’ve come to sell five years on we have replaced the previous cupboard doors and added a touch of H&G with our Charcoal Suede Handles (find here!). With minimal cost the kitchen is now looking nearly brand new.
The whole house was tiled beforehand but we decided to run the tiles slightly past the kitchen- to allow for bar stools then added new carpet to the rest. It acted as a divider between the areas and made the unit feel a bit more cozy.
The deck, my favourite part of the renovation is really the hero of the unit and the aspect which really transformed the whole unit. You can see a video of the deck construction- here.
